“RTJ” (Ring Type Joint) gaskets are manufactured in accordance with API-6A AND ASME B16.20 specifications. RTJs have “R” numbers assigned to them for pipe size and pressure class identification. Stock materials include soft iron, low carbon steel, 4-6 chrome (F5), 304, 304L, 316, 316L, 347, Monsel, Inconel, Incoloy, Duplex, Super Duplex etc.
API ring joint gaskets come in two basic types, an oval cross section and an octagonal cross section. These basic shapes are used in pressures up to 10,000 psi. the dimensions are standardized & require specially grooved flanges.
For critical and non standard applications, where ring type joints are unsuitable in their standard form. V & H offers a range of specialized ring type joint gaskets to suit the needs of the Oil and Gas industry.
Style R gaskets are manufactured in accordance with both API 6A and ASME B16.20 size/ratings. Available in both oval and octagonal configurations, both types are interchangeable on modern octagonal type grooved flanges.
Style R Ring Joint gaskets can be manufactured in accordance with all relevant standards to suit the following flange designations: API- 6A, ASME/ANSI B16.5, MSS SP44 (ASME B 16.47 Series A) & BS 1560.
Style RX is a pressure-energized adaptation of the standard Style R gasket. The RX is designed to fit the same groove design as a standard Style R, making the joints interchangeable. The modified design uses a pressure-energized effect that improves the efficiency of the seal as the internal pressure of the system increases.
(A plus tolerance of 0.008 inches for width and height is permitted, provided the variation in width or height does not exceed 0.004 inches throughout its entire circumference)
Style BX pressure energized Ring Joint Gaskets are manufactured in accordance with API 6A and are designed for use on pressurized systems up to 20,000 PSI. When correctly fitted, the style BX Ring Joint Gasket allows virtual surface-to-surface contact of the flange faces, which means that the Ring Joint Gasket is fully trapped on both the inner and outer diameters.
All BX Ring Joint Gasket incorporate a pressure balance hole to ensure equalization of pressure that may be trapped in the grooves.
It is advisable that all the Ring Joint Gasket and its material are handled with the same care and attention irrespective of its material properties. Any Gasket that is bent, scratched, nicked, gouged or hammered will be ineffective due to the damage. Below are tips for storing, and handling the Ring Gaskets and Gasket Material:
Ring Gasket and its material should always be stored in cool and dry places, away from sunlight, water, oil and chemical. It Should NOT be subjected to extreme heat or humidity Hanging of Gaskets should be refrained from as they may get distorted. Large diameter Spiral wound gaskets should be kept on their mounting board while soft gaskets should be laid flat
The Gaskets should be kept clean preferable in sealed poly bags to keep it free from any damage The gaskets should be carried carefully with a protective cover. For large diameter metallic and semi metallic Ring Gaskets it is recommended to transport it to the site on its mounting board Avoid bending, buckling or damaging the Gasket
